This month, we officially start the Unlocking the Asylum Project which will continue over the next two years. Those of you who visit the office may notice some new faces as our new project team make a start on the task ahead of them.
Project Archivist – Lindsey Sutton
Lindsey has recently completed a project with Lancashire Record Office cataloguing records of Horrockses, Crewdson and Company Limited, a Lancashire based textile firm. Prior to this she has worked on a number of cataloguing projects at Lancashire Record Office and Liverpool John Moores University. Lindsey will be with us for the duration of the project and will be responsible for creating the catalogue for the collection.
Project Conservator – Joanna Shuker
Joanna has recently qualified from University of Arts London with an MA in in Conservation of Art on Paper and has experience working with The National Trust and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum. Joanna will be with us for 3 months and will be responsible for surveying the collection and providing a detailed report on the condition of the records.
Project Support Officer – Rhian Evans
Rhian has been an archive assistant here for the last 9 years and will be seconded to the project team. Rhian has been involved in a number of tasks over the last few years including listing a large collection of coroner’s records and migrating thousands of catalogue records into our database. Rhian will be responsible for creating a comprehensive list of patient case files.
The completion of the project will see:
- An itemised catalogue of the existing accessions re-catalogued to current standards.
- An itemised catalogue of later accessions of administration records.
- The later accession of patient case files will be listed and repackaged.
- The collection will be assessed for conservation needs and preventive preservation measures highlighted and put in place.
- The collection will be assessed for potential digitisation projects/digital resources.
