Here at Denbighshire Archives Service we have a number of volunteers helping us with a variety of tasks which, without them, we simply would not be able to do!
Last year, our service received a CyMAL grant to enable us to buy specialist conservation supplies, including a variety of brushes, blotting paper and sponges. Having this new equipment has enabled us to host a group of volunteers to help clean items in our collections. The groups meet twice a month and have cleaned 245 volumes and have put in a combined total of 238 hours of volunteer time to date. Cleaning documents requires a very patient and meticulous person with steady hands and involves carefully cleaning the document surface with specialist brushes. Our volunteers have come to us with a passion for history, particularly local history, and enthusiasm to work with original archives.
We have also had a number of other volunteers working with us, including school pupils on work experience, university students, those wishing to pursue a career in archives and retired people with an interest in archives and their local history.
Staff at Denbighshire Archives are very grateful for the time our volunteers contribute and hope that our volunteer projects continue to be successful in the future.
